Consistent chocolate decoration, even on uneven cakes

FoodJet decorates mellow cakes with chocolate or compound using vision-guided depositing. A camera reads the position of each cake, so the deposit lands in the same place on every product, even when cakes sit slightly off-centre on the conveyor. You get a repeatable decoration pattern across the batch, without manual finishing or operator-to-operator variation.

Why decoration drifts on soft, domed products

Mellow cakes are soft, domed and rarely line up perfectly on the conveyor. Hand decoration depends on the operator and changes during a long run, and fixed nozzles miss products that sit off-centre. The result is uneven placement, rework and product you cannot sell at full value.

What vision-guided decoration gives you

  • Placement on target. A camera detects the position and rotation of each cake, so the pattern lands where you want it on every product, not only the ones that happen to be aligned.
  • Designs defined in software. Patterns are created and stored in the FoodJet Designer Studio software. You switch between designs, or adjust a pattern for a seasonal product, without tooling changes.
  • Built for chocolate and compound. The system is configured for low-viscosity materials such as chocolate and fat compound, matched to your recipe, with nozzle control setting the volume per deposit.

How vision-guided decoration works

The system runs inline at line speed, with no manual handling between detection and deposit.

  1. Detect. A camera reads the position and rotation of each cake on the conveyor as it enters the depositing zone.
  2. Align. The software maps the stored decoration pattern onto each individual product, correcting for position and rotation in real time.
  3. Deposit. Individually controlled nozzles apply chocolate or compound at the set pattern and volume, on every product, at line speed.
  4. Adjust. Change the pattern, volume or design in software during production, without stopping the line.

Because the pattern follows the product rather than a fixed position, decoration quality stays the same from the first cake to the last.

When this is a good fit

  • You decorate mellow cakes or similar soft, domed confectionery and manual decoration is a bottleneck.
  • Products show position variation on the conveyor.
  • You want the same decoration quality across trays, shifts and operators.
  • You need fast design changeovers for different or seasonal products.

Frequently asked questions

Which materials can FoodJet deposit on mellow cakes?

Chocolate and fat compound, and other low-viscosity materials. The system is configured to your recipe and line conditions.

Can it handle cakes that are not perfectly aligned?

Yes. The vision system reads the position and rotation of each product, so the deposit is applied in the right place even when cakes shift on the conveyor.

How fast can we change a decoration design?

Designs are stored in software, so you switch between them or adjust a pattern without tooling changes. A changeover is a software selection rather than a mechanical setup.

How quickly can a FoodJet system be integrated?

Many systems are integrated into an existing line within a morning, provided the line is prepared in advance: space and access available, utilities ready, guarding and health-and-safety agreed, and the control interface defined. The exact timing depends on line layout and any customisation.
