Compound in waffle pockets

Filling waffle pockets with compound adds value and creates new product variants without changing your base waffle. FoodJet depositors allow you to fill selected pockets or all pockets inline with controlled portions. Depending on how consistently waffles are presented on the conveyor, depositing can be guided by the FoodJet Control Platform (FJCP) or supported by vision guidance for higher positional accuracy.

FoodJet enables depositing of compound into waffle pockets with controlled portions per product. For aligned waffles, depositing positions can be defined via FJCP. If products shift or rotate, vision guidance detects pocket position and orientation per piece.

This is an example of cavity depositing in practice.

Filling each pocket

Each pocket of your waffle can be filled with materials such as compound chocolate and other fillings. With FJCP, you can define which pockets are filled and which are left empty, enabling patterns and selective filling.

Waffles not aligned: vision guidance

Whether products are aligned or not, vision guidance can detect pocket positions and compensate for product shift and rotation. You do not have to rely on perfect upstream alignment.

How waffle pockets are filled

The depositor is typically placed when waffles are stable on the conveyor and ready for filling. The setup is tuned to pocket geometry, line speed, and compound characteristics such as viscosity and temperature.

Typical system setup

A waffle pocket filling application typically comprises:

  • Platform / frame with integrated supply system (temperature managed where required)
  • Depositing head (multi-nozzle)
  • Controller (FJCP + optional vision)

Frequently asked questions

Can I fill only some of the pockets in a waffle?

Yes. In FJCP you set which pockets get compound and which stay empty, so you can run patterns and selective filling.

What if the waffles shift or rotate on the belt?

Then vision guidance detects the position and orientation of the pockets on each waffle and adjusts the deposit, so you do not need perfect alignment upstream.

Does compound need to be kept warm while depositing?

Compound is usually deposited warm, so the supply, lines and depositing head are temperature managed. The setup is tuned to the viscosity and temperature of your compound, which we test first.
